Considering how much of a role dog ownership plays in car buying, and that they are the only non-human car enthusiasts, why do we rarely have vehicles named after them? We can name cars after cats we can’t own, horses we can’t ride, winds we can’t feel, tracks we’ll never drive, and places we may never go, but our furry friends with the ear-to-ear grins don’t get much love from the marketing men.
Let’s take a moment and give a shout out to a dog that deserves to have a car named after them.
*Does the US even have anything on sale now named after a dog? No, the F-series and Kia Robarknik do NOT count!

The Lamborghini Chihuahua or the Ford F350 Malamute edition would be awesome. The reason is most Lambo drivers I see here on South Beach just rev up their rental Lambos, and never get on them. Just like a yappy rat size dog barking at anything, but never doing anything else. The F350 Malamute edition would have an insanely high tow rating, and heated seats. Annoying you at 3am to go to the bathroom would be a standard feature.

There should be a Land Cruiser-esque truck named the Labrador.

I was gonna say "Pug" but I don't think that lead pic involves a Peugeot.

Someone sold a kit car called the Saluki for a while. I don’t know much about the details.
Not quite a car, but those suspect quality UTV’s they sell at Home Depot are called Bulldog.

I think a 205 GTi would be a good candidate for the name Pug:
As the adopter of a pug, it fits. It’s not really quick but eager and nimble. It’s a lot of car in a small package and it’s just a blast to have around. Imagine this color:
In GTi guise, with a black hood and “face.”
This one’s ours. Note the excessive shedding on the pillowcase:

Akita-
Medium-Large 4x4 SUV with large V6/V8 options. Like a GX stripped of its luxury pretensions.
This fits a bit TOO well. I’m now sad I can’t buy an Akita to go on overland adventures with my Akita.
Dear Toyoda-San....
